"Life is good"

This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was “Life is good”. Once again, I had a lot of ideas, but trying to implement them wasn’t easy. I settled on this design. It shows three cats gathered below two birds, who think, “Life is good... when you're sitting in the catbird seat.” Everything in the foreground is clipart from Arthur's Free Clipart and Free clip art and clipart images. The background is a picture of a green meadow, blurred slightly. (It’s the same one I used last week.)

The picture quality of this postcard is only so-so. I originally wasn’t going to post it, and skip this week’s challenge. But I decided I would because it's a learning experience for me, and this blog is my record for that. I'm having problems switching between image manipulation programs and image formats (gif, jpg, bmp). The result is color resolution loss and colored pixels appearing where they shouldn’t (but there is a pattern to them). So it shows me what I need to work on further.

"Mothers"

This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was Mothers. Many positive images and ideas came to mind for this subject, but none of them were easy to convey. In the end, CJM’s quote inspired me to make this creation. "Just because you're a mother doesn't mean you have to look like one." I used a flapper as the mother, because I always thought they looked fashionable and sexy. Everything in the foreground was found with a Google search for rubber stamps, which I colored. The background is a picture of a green meadow, blurred slightly.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

I didn't think about creating a Saint Patrick's Day postcard until yesterday, so I didn't have much time to think about what to do. This is what I came up with. The clip art is from Ireland first! - Irish clipart archive. The theme I came up with is Celebrate Saint Patrick's Day!

"Africa"

This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was Africa. The first thing I think of when I hear Africa is rhinos! Rhinoceros are one of my favorite animals. I used an Old World map of Africa for my background, and clipart from Arthur's Free Clipart.

After I made my postcard, I thought about other ideas for Africa postcards. I decided to make a second one with a rhinoceros. I used old scroll paper as my background. Then I selected only the horn of a rhinoceros and rotated it to look somewhat like the shape of Africa. The foreground is based on a print I have somewhere, showing a man hiding in a palm tree, looking down on a rhinoceros.

"Words of wisdom"

This is my postcard for the "Words of wisdom" Sunday Postcard Art challenge. The quotes I used, and others that I found, are what inspired the creation I came up with. I used clip art from Clipart ETC (except for the pearls).

Quotes:

“The doors of wisdom are never shut.” Benjamin Franklin

“Does wisdom perhaps appear on the earth as a raven which is inspired by the smell of carrion?” Friedrich Nietzsche

"Once upon a time"

My postcard for the "Once upon a time" Sunday Postcard Art challenge is based on the Pandora's Box myth. I used clip art from Dave's Mythical Creatures.
