Nathan Hale Homestead - Photograph

I took this photograph of the Nathan Hale Homestead in Coventry, CT recently.

Captain Nathan Hale was caught and hanged as a spy at age 21 by the British in New York in September of 1776. He is famous for his alleged last words: "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country."

We live in an era of words with watered down meanings. Politicians use the word "Patriot" (one who loves, supports, and defends one's country) to describe people in circumstances that have nothing to do with the definition of the word.

Nathan Hale was a Patriot. He would be appalled at the surveillance state his country has now become.
